At Layer3 Collective in Towson, Maryland, we are committed to helping you achieve the best results from your tattoo. Proper aftercare is crucial for ensuring a smooth healing process and maintaining the vibrancy of your ink. Follow these steps to take care of your tattoo:
General Aftercare Instructions:
Unwrap your tattoo within 1 hour of leaving the shop.
Do not rewrap your tattoo after removing the initial bandage.
Wash the tattoo gently with antibacterial soap and warm water.
Apply a thin layer of Aquaphor, rubbing it in as you would lotion or sunscreen.
Repeat washing and applying Aquaphor twice daily for the next two weeks.
Avoid picking, itching, or scratching the tattoo during healing.
No swimming or sunbathing for at least two weeks.
Saniderm Aftercare Option:
Remove the Saniderm bandage 24 hours after your appointment.
Clean the tattoo thoroughly with antibacterial soap, then pat dry or allow it to air dry.
Apply a new Saniderm bandage, ensuring it's smooth with minimal bubbles.
Leave the new Saniderm on for 4-5 days before removing it.
Your tattoo should be fully healed by this time, but continue to avoid swimming and suntanning for an additional two weeks to ensure proper healing.
General Healing Process (2-4 Weeks):
Wash your tattoo 2-3 times a day with gentle antibacterial soap and water.
Avoid over-applying ointment; a thin layer of Aquaphor is sufficient to keep it moisturized.
Do not scratch or pick at scabs. Let them fall off naturally to avoid damaging the tattoo.
Wear loose, breathable clothing to prevent irritation.
Avoid submerging your tattoo in water (baths, pools, oceans) for at least 2-4 weeks.
Stay out of direct sunlight and avoid tanning beds while your tattoo is healing.
Long-Term Care Tips:
Moisturize regularly to keep your tattoo vibrant and prevent dryness.
Use sunscreen on your healed tattoo to protect it from fading and UV damage.
Schedule touch-ups if needed to maintain the tattoo’s appearance over time.
Signs of Infection:
If you notice any of the following, contact a healthcare professional:
Excessive redness or swelling after a few days.
Pus or unusual discharge.
Prolonged pain or fever.

Piercing Aftercare Guide
At Layer3 Collective in Towson, Maryland, we take pride in offering professional piercing services to our clients in Towson, Baltimore, and the surrounding areas. Proper aftercare is essential for a safe healing process and to ensure your piercing looks its best. Follow the steps below to care for your new piercing.
General Piercing Aftercare Instructions:
Clean your piercing twice daily using a sterile saline solution or a gentle, unscented saline wound wash.
Wash your hands thoroughly before touching or cleaning your piercing to avoid infection.
Do not twist or turn your jewelry, as this can irritate the piercing and slow the healing process.
Avoid using alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or harsh soaps, as they can dry out and irritate the area.
Pat the area dry with a clean paper towel—avoid using cloth towels, which can harbor bacteria.
Healing Times for Common Piercings:
Earlobes: 6-8 weeks
Cartilage (helix, tragus, etc.): 6-12 months
Nostril: 4-6 months
Septum: 2-3 months
Navel: 6-12 months
Eyebrow: 2-3 months
(Note: Healing times can vary depending on individual factors like lifestyle, skin type, and aftercare practices.)
What to Avoid During Healing:
Avoid touching your piercing unnecessarily, especially with unwashed hands.
No swimming, hot tubs, or submerging your piercing in water for at least 6 weeks.
Avoid sleeping directly on the piercing. Use a travel pillow to create space around ear or facial piercings.
Stay away from hair products, makeup, or lotions near the piercing area, as these can cause irritation or infection.
Do not remove your jewelry during the healing process, as the piercing can close quickly, even if it appears healed.
Signs of Infection:
While some swelling, redness, and tenderness are normal, watch for signs of infection such as:
Severe swelling or redness that extends beyond the piercing area.
Green or yellow discharge with a foul odor.
Prolonged pain or warmth at the piercing site.
If you experience any of these symptoms, consult a healthcare professional immediately.
Long-Term Care for Piercings:
Continue cleaning your piercing for several months to ensure it heals fully.
Avoid changing your jewelry too soon. Only switch jewelry after your piercer confirms the healing process is complete.
Wear high-quality jewelry to minimize the risk of allergic reactions and ensure long-term comfort.
